Pod

2.5 – 3.5 Years Old*

Our tamariki in Pod are now quite independent little ones. Here we focus on growing this further with more physical and social/emotional challenges. Our tamariki learn to advance their hand-eye coordination and communication skills. They become more capable of sharing what they want or don’t want, how they feel and what they like or don’t like.

How do our tamariki learn?

comes in many forms...

“Communication skills develop when there is something meaningful for children to communicate about – when they take an active role”

– Prof. Lilian Katz

Communication is the start of sharing ourselves outwardly. It starts just as soon as we are babies old enough to see that a cute smile gets us special attention. And a giggle..WOW!

By the age of 2.5 – 3 years old we are beginning to advance our skills of language communication and it’s tricky! Up until now our communication has been mostly using our physical bodies, noises and a few words, but now we are learning that language, and more specifically, sentences are more effective.

Kia ora! I am a new teacher in the Pods, Laura. I've spent nearly seven years in this beautiful career, and I'm also a mum to four amazing children. Being a part of children's learning journeys truly fuels my passion for this job. As we venture through this journey together, my hope is to extend your learning in ways that will further enhance your curiosity and abilities. I am looking forward to our future explorations and the discovery of new learning opportunities within our village, and build meaningful relationships with our children and families. I grew up in a little Valley outside of Palmerston North, and have a love for the outdoors and all nature offers us.

Hannah

Kia ora! I’m Hannah B.

Here’s a bit about me. I am 22 and have grown up in Auckland. I studied my level 5 diploma here, and then I adventured over to the beautiful Tauranga, to live life there for about a year. We then took a leap to the far north (Hokianga) to live off grid for about 8 months, we decided to come back to Auckland at the end of last year.

I love exploring the outdoors and finding new things to do such as camping and beach missions. I live with my fiancé and our animals 3 dogs, guinea pigs, chickens and cats (huge animal lover).

I have a passion for teaching children so I am going to carry on studying, and aim to become a fully qualified teacher in the near future.

I love being around children and teaching them new things, as they are amazing little people and to watch them grow and learn is very rewarding, after all they are our next generation and it’s an honour to be a part of their development.
